In the early morning hours, the life of 49-year-old Steven Thompson was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Kansas City. On that fateful day in the 400 block of Colorado Avenue, police responded to a call of a shooting and discovered a grim scene. Thompson was found lying in the grass, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his throat, and was pronounced dead at the location. Another man was also shot and critically injured but was able to provide crucial information to the authorities.

The surviving victim, found sitting on the front porch of a residence, identified the shooter as a man named 'Gabe.' This initial lead directed the investigation toward Gabriel D. English, a 32-year-old from Kansas City. According to witnesses, the incident stemmed from a dispute over text messages. English had reportedly gone to the house to confront the surviving victim about messages he had sent to an ex-girlfriend who was with English at the time. The confrontation escalated, leading to the shooting that claimed Thompson's life and severely wounded the other man.

Following the incident, law enforcement located and arrested Gabriel D. English in the 6400 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard. During the arrest, a 9mm Glock handgun was discovered in the vehicle English was occupying. Ballistic analysis later confirmed that the ammunition in the firearm matched the shell casings recovered from the scene of the crime, further linking English to the shooting.

As a result of the investigation, the Jackson County prosecutor's office filed multiple charges against Gabriel D. English. He was charged with second-degree murder for the death of Steven Thompson, as well as assault and two counts of armed criminal action for his role in the violent altercation. English was subsequently taken into custody and held at the Jackson County jail on a $350,000 bond.
