On August 17, 2023, 17-year-old Edward "Trey" Black Jr. was fatally shot in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. At approximately 6:39 p.m., while on the sidewalk in the 4500 block of South Paulina Avenue, he sustained gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and groin from an unidentified assailant. Emergency responders transported him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
