On August 17, 2023, 17-year-old Edward "Trey" Black Jr. was fatally shot in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood. At approximately 6:39 p.m., while on the sidewalk in the 4500 block of South Paulina Avenue, he sustained gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and groin from an unidentified assailant. Emergency responders transported him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity as Edward Black of Chicago.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the incident. Community members are urged to provide any information that could assist in apprehending those responsible for this tragic loss.
