On the morning of November 29, 2016, a fatal confrontation unfolded at an auto repair business in Kansas City, Missouri. Around 11:30 a.m., authorities were alerted to a shooting incident at a shop located near the intersection of 39th Street and Indiana Avenue. First responders arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound following a reported altercation inside the establishment.
The individual was identified as 32-year-old Treon J. Librera.
According to investigators, the male subject had entered the business allegedly armed with a firearm. A dispute arose between him and the owner of the auto shop, which quickly escalated into a physical struggle. Law enforcement officials stated that the two men wrestled for control of the weapon after it was displayed during the argument.
During the scuffle, the shop owner managed to gain the upper hand and fired the weapon, striking the intruder. The business owner remained at the scene and contacted 911 immediately after the shooting occurred. Librera was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Following a review of the circumstances, police determined the shooting was an act of self-defense, and no charges were filed against the shop owner in connection with the death.
