On a summer evening in Little Rock, Arkansas, the life of 26-year-old Eligiah Lucas was tragically cut short. On July 29, 2023, at approximately 7 p.m., Lucas was discovered near the intersection of Green Mountain Drive and Rainwood Road with apparent gunshot wounds. The specific location was identified as 11724 Rainwood Road, in the vicinity of the EZ Market. Despite the arrival of emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Responding officers encountered 23-year-old Harris Martin at the location of the shooting. Martin was taken into custody for questioning by the Major Crimes Division. After providing a statement about the events that transpired, he was released without charges, pending further investigation. In the interim, the Pulaski County Coroner transported Lucas's body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death, and his next of kin were notified of the devastating loss.

For nearly a year, the investigation into Lucas's death continued as authorities canvassed the area for potential witnesses and reviewed available video surveillance footage. The case took a significant turn when the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney's Office reviewed the evidence and determined that the shooting was not justified. Consequently, on May 17, 2024, Harris Martin, now 24, was arrested and formally charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Eligiah Lucas. He is currently being held at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility without bond, awaiting legal proceedings.
