Vishnuvardhan Cheelam, a 30-year-old crew member aboard the MSC Seascape, was last seen on November 14, 2023, while the ship was en route from Miami on a Caribbean cruise. Reports indicate that he went overboard near Puerto Rico, prompting a search effort by the United States Coast Guard, which deployed vessels and a helicopter in an attempt to locate him. Despite these efforts, Vishnu has not been found.
Just before his disappearance, Vishnu had communicated with his family, expressing excitement about returning to India, where they were constructing a new home. He played a significant role in supporting his mother and sisters financially after losing his father at a young age. His family has expressed their devastation over his loss and has criticized MSC Cruises for their lack of communication and support following the incident. They have not received any information regarding his disappearance, nor have they been provided with his personal belongings or compensation for his outstanding wages.
The situation surrounding Vishnu's disappearance remains troubling, particularly given the cruise line's refusal to share details about the circumstances leading up to him going overboard, including any available CCTV footage.
