On the night of September 28, 2024, in Adrian, Missouri, 41-year-old John Henry McMurphy Jr. was fatally shot in his residence. Authorities responded promptly to a 911 call made by McMurphy's 18-year-old adoptive son, Carter Joshua Curtis, who confessed to shooting his father and fleeing the scene on foot. Officers arrived at the location within minutes, discovering McMurphy deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
