In the late hours of a November evening in Camden, New Jersey, a violent encounter irrevocably altered the course of a man's life. On November 20, 2023, police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on Hunter Drive. Upon their arrival at approximately 9:08 p.m., they discovered 38-year-old Anthony T. Young, a male resident of Camden, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to Cooper University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
For nearly a month, Young fought for his life, remaining on life support as medical professionals attended to his grave injuries.
The battle, however, came to a sorrowful end on the afternoon of December 15, 2023. At 1:25 p.m., Anthony T. Young was pronounced dead at the hospital, succumbing to the injuries he sustained in the shooting nearly a month prior. His passing transitioned the case from an aggravated assault to a homicide investigation, prompting a deeper search for the individual responsible for this act of violence that had now claimed a man's life.
The investigation into Anthony T. Young's death continued for two months, led by detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department. Their efforts culminated on January 22, 2024, with the arrest of a suspect. Marcus Davenport, a 39-year-old man, also from Camden, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Anthony T. Young. In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Davenport also faced charges of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. While an arrest has been made, authorities have continued to encourage anyone with further information to come forward as the legal proceedings against the suspect commence.
