In the early morning hours of February 17, 2014, the life of 21-year-old Marvin McClinton was tragically cut short in a rowhouse on the 1800 block of South Sixth Street in Camden, New Jersey. McClinton, a male resident of Clementon, was fatally shot in the face on the second floor of the residence around 4:30 a.m. The force of the blast caused him to fall down the stairs, and he was found deceased at the foot of the steps when police arrived.
An investigation into the homicide led to the swift arrest of Isaac Bruce, 24, and Sophia Faulkner, 31, both from Camden. Authorities determined that Bruce had arrived at the home after 1:30 a.m. carrying a shotgun. While his possession of the weapon initially didn't cause alarm to those present, as he was known to carry it, the situation escalated violently hours later. Following the shooting of McClinton, Bruce allegedly turned the weapon on another individual on the first floor, firing twice.
Although the shots tore through the person's sweatshirt, they were miraculously unharmed.
Following the murder, Bruce and Faulkner fled to Atlantic City with a third person, renting a motel room. There, they allegedly confessed to the shooting and threatened the witness, holding them against their will. The witness managed to escape once Bruce and Faulkner fell asleep and alerted the authorities. The duo returned to Camden later that day, where they were apprehended by the Camden County Police. At the time of his arrest, Bruce was reportedly in possession of a handgun.
In December 2014, a grand jury indicted both Bruce and Faulkner on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and hindering apprehension. Bruce faced an additional charge of murder, while Faulkner was indicted for being an accomplice to murder. Faulkner was also accused of firing a handgun at the witness during the initial incident.
