In the late hours of a Monday evening in Camden, New Jersey, tragedy befell 27-year-old Michael Twiggs. On August 24, 2020, around 11 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting on the 1600 block of Kolo Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Twiggs lying on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Michael Twiggs succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting was immediately launched by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department.
A week after the fatal shooting, authorities announced a significant development in the case.
On August 31, 2020, a suspect was apprehended in Sicklerville by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The individual taken into custody was identified as Tyrell Gibbs of Glassboro.
Gibbs was subsequently charged with murder and other related offenses in connection with the death of Michael Twiggs. Following his arrest, he was held at the Camden County jail awaiting his initial court appearance.
