In the early hours of a Thursday in Camden, New Jersey, the life of 30-year-old Quinton Norman was tragically cut short. On April 9, 2020, on the 700 block of Mount Vernon Street, Norman was fatally shot. The incident, which also resulted in the injury of a woman who was with him, unfolded shortly after midnight.
Authorities were alerted to the sound of gunfire by a ShotSpotter activation. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered both Norman and the female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency services transported Norman to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The woman received medical treatment for her injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led law enforcement to identify a suspect in the case. More than a month after the incident, on May 18, 2020, members of the U.S.
Marshals Fugitive Task Force-Camden Division located and arrested 21-year-old Marquese Holmes of Camden in connection with the homicide.
Following his arrest, Holmes was charged with one count of first-degree murder for the death of Quinton Norman and one count of first-degree attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the woman. He was subsequently held in the Camden County Jail to await a pre-trial detention hearing. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public by the authorities.
