The city of Rochester's new year began with violence when 30-year-old Arthur Stevens was shot and killed inside a home on Stout Street on January 1, 2019, marking the city's first homicide of the year. The incident, which occurred around 5:00 a.m., also left a 29-year-old woman, Lisa Johnson, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her upper body. Police were called to the scene after reports of a shooting and discovered Stevens deceased inside the residence.
Johnson was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was subsequently released.
The investigation into the double shooting continued for several months. In April of the same year, Rochester police announced an arrest in connection with the case. Twenty-four-year-old Shane Jones was taken into custody and charged with murder and assault for his alleged involvement in the death of Arthur Stevens and the injuring of Lisa Johnson. Jones was arraigned in court following his arrest.
