On a summer afternoon in Camden, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 900 block of Newton Avenue. It was June 25, 2023, and the incident, which occurred at approximately 4:12 p.m., would end in the tragic death of 27-year-old Daniel Rivera Jr., a Hispanic male from Woodlynne. First responders were alerted to the shooting by the city's ShotSpotter technology.

Following the gunshots, Rivera was privately transported to Cooper University Hospital with a gunshot wound. ...
