In the winter of 2018, the life of 17-year-old Harrison Javier was tragically cut short in Camden, New Jersey. On the afternoon of January 8th, what began as a planned meeting ended in violence and the young man's untimely death. Harrison, a male student at Camden Academy Charter High School, was known for his positive energy and maturity beyond his years.
The events leading to his death were set in motion through a deceptive social media post, a seemingly innocent offer to purchase drugs that served as a lure for an unsuspecting victim.
Harrison, accompanied by a passenger, drove to the arranged meeting spot at the intersection of 29th and Clinton streets. As they waited in the car, two young women approached the vehicle, their presence a prelude to the violence that would soon unfold. Shortly after their arrival, three male suspects appeared, two of whom were brandishing firearms. The encounter quickly escalated into an attempted robbery, during which Harrison was shot once in the chest. He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Harrison's murder moved swiftly, aided by surveillance footage from the area and crucial witness statements. The authorities were initially seeking two women seen near the scene, and it was later revealed that they were part of a larger group. The investigation led to the arrest of five individuals in connection with the fatal shooting. Among those charged were 21-year-old Cafee White, 20-year-old Eshae Copling, and 19-year-old Derrick Jackson. Two minors, a 17-year-old boy from Clementon and a 17-year-old girl from Camden, were also taken into custody.
The group faced serious charges, including felony murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. Investigators pieced together the events of that day, revealing how the suspects had allegedly worked in concert to orchestrate the robbery that resulted in Harrison's death. Surveillance footage captured the suspects, some wearing blue latex-style gloves, fleeing the scene and entering a nearby home. It was there that law enforcement found evidence connecting them to the crime.
