On an April evening in 2015, a house party in Haddon Township, New Jersey, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 18-year-old Tyimer Bright of Camden. The shooting, which occurred on April 5th, also left two other Camden residents, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, with injuries. Gunfire erupted outside the residence, and in the aftermath, Bright was found to have been shot multiple times.
He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the early morning hours. The two teenage girls who were also wounded in the incident were treated for their injuries and subsequently recovered.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification and charging of two suspects from Camden. One of the individuals charged was Daikwon Alford, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident. Despite his age, a judge ruled that Alford would be tried as an adult on charges of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He was held on $1 million cash bail. While a motive for the shooting was not publicly disclosed by authorities, Alford's attorney contended that he was misidentified as the shooter.
A second suspect, 15-year-old Brandon M. Spearman, was also charged with first-degree murder in connection to Tyimer Bright's death and two counts of attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the two teenage girls. After being announced as a fugitive, Spearman, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered to detectives at the prosecutor's office. In addition to these two, authorities believed a 17-year-old male was a second shooter. This individual was detained and later charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder, though his identity was not released as he was not immediately charged as an adult.
