Lamar Abdul Thompson, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot on a Saturday night in September 2017 in Camden, New Jersey. The incident, which also left another 26-year-old man wounded, occurred at a local gas station. An officer in the vicinity heard the gunshots and discovered the injured man, whom he transported to the hospital. Shortly thereafter, additional responding officers found Thompson, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation quickly led police to the home of
24-year-old Victor Ruiz. A lengthy standoff ensued, continuing overnight until Ruiz was arrested without incident. Following his apprehension, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office charged Ruiz with murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses in connection with the shooting.
