In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 20, 2020, life for 38-year-old Jermaine Wilkes, known to his loved ones as 'NuNu,' came to a violent and tragic end. He was at a birthday party inside the Wheels of Soul motorcycle club on the 800 block of Princess Avenue in Camden, New Jersey, when an argument broke out. Gunfire erupted on the dance floor, and Jermaine was fatally shot.
He was not the only victim that night; his best friend, 32-year-old Jamill Jenkins, was also killed in the shooting.
Jermaine, a male who had been working to turn his life around after serving three years in prison, was reportedly doing well. He was a father of two and had been living with his girlfriend. He held a job at the Cheese Steak Factory in Center City and had more recently been working with his father's moving business. His aspirations were to save enough money to purchase a new house and start his own moving company.
According to police, Jermaine Wilkes died at the scene of the shooting. However, before law enforcement arrived, his body was found lying in the street outside the club. As of November 2020, the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Jermaine Wilkes and Jamill Jenkins had not been apprehended, and the killer was considered to be on the run. Detectives from the Camden County Police Department were seeking to locate and interview witnesses who were present at the party in an effort to identify the individual who pulled the trigger. The investigation into the double homicide was ongoing.
