A holiday visit to family turned fatal for Raheem L. Gilbert, a 27-year-old man from Camden, New Jersey, on Saturday, July 4, 2015. He had recently moved to West Virginia and was back in his former city when the deadly encounter occurred.
That evening, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a person shot on the 400 block of Viola Street in Camden. Upon arrival, officers found Gilbert on the porch of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Raheem Gilbert succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:39 p.m. at the hospital. At the time, detectives were working to determine a motive for the shooting. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. He is survived by a son and a brother.
