On a cold Saturday evening in Camden, New Jersey, tragedy struck on January 7, 2023. Eric Cecilia, a 31-year-old man, was fatally shot in an incident that also left another man wounded. The quiet of the 3200 block of Saunders Avenue was shattered at approximately 8:46 p.m. by the sound of gunfire, which triggered a ShotSpotter notification and brought Camden County Police officers to the scene.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and both victims were rushed to Cooper University Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Eric Cecilia was pronounced deceased at 9:53 p.m. The second victim, a 20-year-old man from Camden, was reported to be in stable condition.
