On a Sunday night in Atlantic City, the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the air in the 1100 block of Monroe Avenue, prompting a police response at approximately 10:06 p.m.. Gayle was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, but tragically, he was pronounced deceased. The other victim, a 24-year-old from Atlantic City named Lyndon Russell Jr., was also transported to the same hospital for treatment of his injuries and was admitted.. A witness at the scene reported seeing a car speeding away down Ohio Avenue shortly after the shooting.
The death of Kevin Gayle Jr. marked the fourth homicide in Atlantic City within the first week of the new year. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit, along with the Atlantic City Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, are actively investigating the shooting.
