In the late afternoon of March 1, 2021, tragedy struck in Atlantic City, New Jersey, forever altering the lives of those who knew Tashawn Manuel. The 29-year-old man, a resident of the city, was on the first block of South Florida Avenue when the sound of gunfire shattered the day's calm at approximately 4:04 p.m. When police arrived at the scene following 911 calls, they discovered that Manuel had been shot.
He was rushed to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Tashawn Manuel succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another man from Atlantic City was also injured in the shooting, though his injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he was treated at the same hospital.
Authorities did not release the identity of the second victim.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Atlantic City Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Investigators have stated they believe the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Known affectionately as 'S' to his friends and family, Manuel was remembered as a generous person who was always there for the people he cared about.
