In the late hours of a Thursday night in Atlantic City, tragedy struck, leaving a family heartbroken and a community searching for answers. On March 16, 2023, Jamar Square, a 29-year-old Black male from Lawrence Township, New Jersey, was in the unit block of South Texas Avenue when the sound of gunfire pierced the air. When police responded to the reports of a shooting at approximately 10:40 p.m., they found Square suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported him to the
AtlantiCare Medical Center-City Division, but his injuries proved to be too severe. Jamar Square was pronounced dead at the hospital, his life cut short by an act of violence. Known affectionately as 'Mar Mar' to his loved ones, he was a father who was deeply passionate about his family and his clothing line.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit launched a cooperative investigation into the fatal shooting. Despite their efforts, the case has remained unsolved, and as of late 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with Square's death. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest and bring a measure of closure to his grieving family.
