On the night of February 2, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., Newark police responded to reports of a shooting on the 100 block of Dewey Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Jaquill D. Swain suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:32 p.m.
