On a late Friday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 30-year-old Shaquan Hatcher-Turner was tragically cut short. On September 27, 2019, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Hatcher-Turner, a Black male, was on the 600 block of South 19th Street when he was fatally shot. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and he was quickly transported to University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Hatcher-Turner succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with detectives from the Newark Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for Hatcher-Turner's death.
