In the winter of 2023, the life of 64-year-old Michael Douglas Hancock, a Black male, was tragically cut short in what would become the first homicide of the year in Roanoke, Virginia. On the evening of January 8th, police were called to a residence in the 800 block of 30th Street Northwest. Inside, they discovered Hancock, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
