Patrolman Leonard Russell Morris, a dedicated officer of the Roanoke City Police Department in Virginia, tragically succumbed to gunshot wounds on May 15, 1934, at the age of 37. These fatal injuries were sustained two years earlier, on June 29, 1932, during a foot pursuit on Tazewell Avenue. While chasing a suspect, Morris was ambushed by the individual who had concealed himself behind trash cans. As Morris passed by, the suspect opened fire, striking him in the back.
