On New Year's Day in 1995, the city of Roanoke, Virginia, was jolted by a brutal act of violence that claimed the life of 36-year-old Dale Jay Arnold and four others. The festive atmosphere of the holiday was shattered in a small carriage house apartment in the Old Southwest neighborhood, where a party turned into a scene of carnage. Arnold lived in the three-room apartment with his girlfriend, Susan Lynne Hutchinson, 44, who was also killed.
