On a Tuesday morning in Virginia Beach, the life of 31-year-old Anthony Breon Johnson was tragically cut short in a shooting outside of a Hardee's restaurant in the Timberlake Shopping Center on Holland Road. Johnson, known to his loved ones as Breon, was a married man with a reputation for his friendly and free-spirited personality. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and worked in the corporate industry.
He was also known as 'DJ Bre' and was loved by many for his infectious smile.
The incident, which occurred on March 7, 2023, prompted an investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department. Their efforts led to the arrest of 31-year-old Ishaun Riddick in connection with the fatal shooting. Riddick was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In the days following the shooting, Riddick appeared in court for a bond hearing. Despite his family testifying on his behalf and the mention of his lack of a prior criminal history, the judge denied him bond, deeming him a threat to the community. Johnson was shot three times in the parking lot. He was remembered by friends and family as a loving husband and son who had a positive impact on those around him.
