On a Monday morning in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the life of 20-year-old Keshawn Woodhouse was tragically cut short. Just before 10 a.m. on September 30, 2024, gunshots echoed in the 600 block of Fox Creek Court. When police officers arrived, they found Woodhouse suffering from critical gunshot wounds. First responders attempted to save him, but his injuries were too severe, and he died at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to two suspects. Surveillance footage from a home captured the harrowing moments leading to Woodhouse's death. The video reportedly showed Woodhouse outside with two other individuals. One of them, later identified as 19-year-old Javon Pollard, allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded Woodhouse's belongings, saying, 'I'm gonna need all that.' When Woodhouse tried to flee into the residence, he was shot multiple times.
Following the shooting, Pollard allegedly fled in a vehicle and was involved in a hit-and-run crash less than a mile away at the intersection of Lynbrook Landing and Baker Road. This collision, which resulted in an injury to the other driver, ultimately helped authorities track him down. Using license plate reader technology, police traced Pollard's vehicle to Portsmouth. Within 13 hours of the shooting, he was apprehended with the assistance of the Portsmouth Police Department SWAT team. Pollard was initially charged with second-degree murder, unauthorized use of a firearm, attempted robbery, and felony hit and run.
Further investigation led to a second arrest on November 21, 2024. Eighteen-year-old Aarion Hopkins of Chesapeake was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted robbery, and conspiracy. In light of the new arrest and additional evidence, Javon Pollard's charges were upgraded to first-degree murder, and a conspiracy charge was added.
