On the night of March 9, 2023, in Newport News, Virginia, the lives of two young men were tragically cut short. Damari Hall, an 18-year-old Black male, was in the 800 block of Roam Court, near the Westover Station Apartments, when gunfire erupted at approximately 10:07 p.m. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a grim tableau. Hall, along with another 18-year-old, Alijah Demonte Gilliam, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
