In the winter of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Gabriel Elisha Wright was tragically cut short in a shooting in Newport News, Virginia. On the afternoon of Monday, December 13th, police responded to a call in the 800 block of Brighton Lane. There they discovered Wright suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene just eight minutes after officers arrived.
Born on June 13, 2003, Gabriel, known affectionately as “Man-Man,” was a former student of
Newport News Public Schools. His sudden death left his family and community in mourning. During the incident, a woman in a nearby apartment was also injured by broken glass from a bullet that entered her residence, though her injuries were not life-threatening.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Newport News police had no information on a suspect and appealed to the public for any information that could aid their investigation. As of late 2021, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the death of Gabriel Elisha Wright. The investigation into his homicide was reported as ongoing. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding arrests or the identification of any suspects in the case.
