On April 29, 2023, at approximately 2:14 a.m., Newport News police responded to a shooting at the intersection of 17th Street and Terminal Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old Larry "Duck" Leroy Wallace suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Wallace was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
