In the early morning hours of October 21, 2023, the sound of gunshots shattered the quiet of a neighborhood on Aqueduct Drive in Newport News, Virginia. When police officers arrived at the scene around 3:40 a.m., they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Reco Antonio Trevon Brown, a Black male from the nearby city of Hampton.
Emergency medical personnel transported Brown to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Tragically, his injuries were too severe, and he succumbed to them shortly after his arrival. The incident took place in an area that had been no stranger to violence, with two other fatal shootings having occurred on the same street in the preceding year.
In the wake of his death, Reco Brown was remembered by his grieving mother, his six children, and a wider circle of family and friends. His funeral service was held a week later at a funeral home in Hampton.
As of late 2024, the investigation into Reco Brown's homicide remains active. The Newport News Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have been announced.
