In the spring of 2023, the life of 25-year-old TaShonta Gewel Hilliard, a Black female, was tragically cut short. On the evening of March 13th, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Norfolk police were dispatched to the 1100 block of East Princess Anne Road following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene where Hilliard and a 26-year-old man had both sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Both victims were immediately transported to a local hospital for
urgent medical care. While the male victim was expected to survive his injuries, Hilliard fought for her life for five days. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, TaShonta Hilliard succumbed to her injuries on March 18, 2023.
The circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain shrouded in mystery, as authorities have not publicly disclosed any potential motives. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and information regarding any possible suspects has not been released to the public. The Norfolk Police Department's investigation into the death of TaShonta Hilliard is ongoing. Law enforcement continues to appeal to the community for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case and bring those responsible for her death to justice.
