In the spring of 2020, the vibrant life of 15-year-old La'Syiah Cimone Baxter was tragically cut short. A Black female known for her energetic and fun-loving spirit, La'Syiah was a freshman at Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia, and had recently graduated from Norview Middle School, where she had formed strong, familial bonds with many of her friends.
Remembered as the life of the party, she had a passion for dancing and rapping and was known for her kind heart and ability to make people smile.
On the evening of May 10, 2020, events took a devastating turn. Police were called to an Econo Lodge Inn & Suites on Northampton Boulevard in Virginia Beach, a neighboring city to her hometown of Norfolk, following reports of a shooting. Inside one of the motel rooms, they discovered La'Syiah alone, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The Virginia Beach Police Department subsequently opened a homicide investigation into her death, though the specific circumstances and motive behind the shooting were not immediately clear to the public.
In the years that have followed, La'Syiah's death has left an enduring void in the lives of her family and friends. Her loved ones continue to cherish the memory of a bright and fearless young woman with a promising future.
