In the late morning of June 16, 2025, a tragedy unfolded in Norfolk, Virginia, that would claim the life of a young mother and set off a frantic search for her child. Alexus L. Foreman, a 28-year-old Black female, was found by police officers who were responding to a call around 11:35 a.m. in the 900 block of East Liberty Street in the Berkley community. She was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sorrow of her death was immediately compounded by a terrifying discovery: her 4-year-old son was missing, having been taken from the scene in the chaotic aftermath of the shooting.
The abduction of the young boy triggered an AMBER Alert, mobilizing law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the U.S. Marshal Task Force, in a desperate race against time. The search culminated in the early hours of June 17, when the child was found safe and unharmed inside a home in the 3900 block of Huntley Way in nearby Virginia Beach. At the same location, authorities arrested 27-year-old Tyli N. Scott. The child was subsequently returned to the care of a guardian.
Following his arrest, Tyli N. Scott was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Alexus Foreman's death. He was taken to the Norfolk City Jail and held without bond. Court proceedings revealed a troubled history between Scott and Foreman. Prosecutors stated that the two had been arguing before the fatal shooting occurred, and it was confirmed in court that the abducted child was Scott's son. Court records showed that Foreman had previously sought and obtained two emergency protective orders against Scott in 2020 and 2021. A judge denied bond for Scott, citing him as a potential danger to the community. He was scheduled for preliminary hearings in September.
