On a July evening in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 40-year-old Jamaal Castle Moore, a male, came to a tragic and violent end. It was the Fourth of July in 2023 when police were called to Hampton Avenue, between Madison and Marshall avenues, around 9:15 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Moore outside with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. The day after the fatal shooting, 41-year-old Shauntee Pierre Slade turned himself in to authorities. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Justice for Jamaal Moore moved through the court system, culminating in a jury trial. In a decisive verdict, Shauntee Pierre Slade was found guilty of the fatal shooting of Moore. Following his conviction, a sentencing hearing was scheduled for December 5th of that year to determine the penalty for the violent act that cut a man's life short on a holiday meant for celebration.
