In the late evening of September 10, 2023, the life of 22-year-old Savion Cortez Williams, a Black male from Newport News, Virginia, was tragically cut short. First responders were called to the 1100 block of 21st Street following reports of gunfire. Shortly thereafter, a single-vehicle crash was discovered nearby in the 1200 block of the same street.
