In the late summer evening of August 27, 2023, the life of 21-year-old Obie Lewis Holloway III, a Black male from Portsmouth, Virginia, was tragically cut short. At approximately 9:32 p.m., officers from the Portsmouth Police Department were dispatched to an alleyway in the 2900 block of County Street following a report of a gunshot wound. Upon their arrival, they discovered Holloway suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
