On a Tuesday evening in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 19-year-old Trimaine Reed was cut short by gunfire. The incident, which also left another young man injured, took place on February 20, 2024, in the 1700 block of North 22nd Street.
That night, at approximately 7:38 p.m., two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle. One of them, Trimaine Reed, was pronounced dead upon his arrival.
The second victim, a juvenile male, suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
Richmond Police detectives were dispatched to the hospital and initiated a homicide investigation. They determined that the shooting had occurred on North 22nd Street. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of Reed's death.
In the days following the shooting, the Richmond Police Department publicly identified Trimaine Reed as the deceased and appealed to the community for any information that might lead to an arrest.
