In the late hours of a Thursday night in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 18-year-old Aashod Jahron Edwards was tragically cut short. On May 19, 2022, reports of random gunfire in the 1500 block of Jennie Scher Road drew Richmond Police officers to the scene at approximately 11:48 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered the young Black man with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to save him, Aashod was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death was one of four homicides that occurred in neighborhoods east of Interstate 95 that week. The official cause and manner of his death were left to be determined by the Medical Examiner.
In the wake of the shooting, the Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes unit launched a homicide investigation. Detectives appealed to the public for any information that could shed light on the circumstances that led to Aashod's death. A specific detective, B. Neifeld, was named as the contact for anyone with potential leads. However, in the immediate aftermath, no suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in connection with the killing. The case remained open as authorities continued to seek information from the community to bring those responsible to justice. As of late 2025, there have been no significant updates regarding arrests or suspects in the ongoing investigation into the death of Aashod Jahron Edwards.
