Upon arrival at a motel on the scene, officers discovered the body of 52-year-old Darrell Mann on the floor. He had been shot. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Darrell Anthony Mann, a Richmond native born on February 19, 1972, was a veteran of the U.S.
Army, having served as a proud member of the 82nd Airborne. His life was marked by a spirit of adventure and a dedication to service. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Richmond and utilized his skills as an upholsterer, a trade he learned through a high school program. Known as a storyteller and a Civil War enthusiast, he was remembered by those who knew him as someone who never met a stranger and was always willing to help others.
The investigation into Mann's death proceeded for several weeks. On March 19, the Richmond Police Department announced an arrest in the case. Thirty-five-year-old Misty Swift was taken into custody as a suspect in the investigation. Authorities have indicated that Swift and Mann were acquainted with each other, suggesting that the motive for the shooting may have been personal.
Swift has been charged with the murder of Darrell Mann. In addition to the murder charge, she faces charges for the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possessing a firearm as a violent felon. The case is now moving through the legal system.
