On April 20, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Portsmouth Police responded to reports of suspicious activity in the 600 block of Lancer Drive, near Airline Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with fatal gunshot wounds: 31-year-old Eric Pernell Jones Jr. and 32-year-old Russell Branden Barnes. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
