On the evening of May 8, 2024, a dispute in Lynchburg, Virginia, escalated into a fatal act of violence, claiming the life of 23-year-old Bolden Jared Eubanks. Eubanks, a Black male, was at the Kemper Street Apartments when the deadly encounter unfolded. The incident, which occurred around 6:50 p.m., prompted a swift response from the Lynchburg Police Department who were initially called to the scene for a malicious wounding.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered that Eubanks had already been transported to Lynchburg General Hospital by private means. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Witnesses at the scene described the events that led to the shooting, indicating that it stemmed from an argument over a parking spot. One eyewitness recounted seeing a woman arguing with Eubanks before she went inside an apartment, emerged with a firearm, and shot him. This eyewitness account provided crucial details in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. The sudden and violent nature of the event left the community and those who knew Eubanks in shock and mourning. In the days that followed, a memorial and vigil were organized to honor his memory and to offer support to his grieving family and friends.
Shortly after the shooting, authorities identified and apprehended a suspect. Deshanta Olisha Marshall, a 43-year-old resident of Lynchburg, was taken into custody in connection with the death of Bolden Eubanks. The Lynchburg Police Department charged Marshall with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and felony child endangerment. Following her arrest, Marshall was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, where she was held without bond. The investigation into the homicide was described as active and ongoing as law enforcement continued to gather information about the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. A preliminary hearing for Marshall was scheduled for the following August.
