On September 10, 2024, 15-year-old Erster Dionysos Hatch Jr., affectionately known as DJ, was fatally shot in Newport News, Virginia. The incident occurred around 6:20 a.m., approximately two blocks from his residence, as he waited for the bus to take him to Menchville High School, where he was a 10th-grade student.
