On February 21, 2023, 18-year-old Ke'Ron Bowles, a student at Heritage High School in Newport News, Virginia, was fatally shot near the intersection of 27th Street and Roanoke Avenue. The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m., and Bowles was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead approximately 40 minutes later.
