In the late hours of a spring night in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 23-year-old Melquan Tybrae Kennedy was tragically cut short. On May 21, 2018, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Circuit Lane. Upon their arrival at approximately 11:50 p.m., they discovered Kennedy, a Black male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
