On July 10, 2023, 66-year-old Candido "Timmy" Montanez Jr., a longtime employee of Beaufort County Parks and Recreation, was found deceased on Club Bridge Road near Seaside Road on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina. Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to a "man down" call around 11 p.m. and discovered Montanez lying in the road with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
