On August 12, 2024, a tragic incident occurred at the Laurens County Courthouse in South Carolina, resulting in the death of 34-year-old Erin Lee Thomas from Woodruff. The event unfolded around 3:15 p.m. in the courthouse parking lot, where Thomas was struck by a vehicle and subsequently shot. Emergency responders airlifted him to Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
