In the early evening of December 4, 2023, Timothy 'TJ' Dodge Jr., a 28-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Muskegon, Michigan. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. in the 100 block of West Larch Avenue. Another individual, a 36-year-old man, was also injured in the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was able to transport himself to a local hospital.
Authorities have stated their belief that the attack on Dodge was a targeted act and not a random event.
Tragically, this was the second time in a matter of weeks that the Dodge family was struck by gun violence. Just a few weeks prior, on November 12, 2023, TJ's younger brother, 25-year-old Ta'Rique Dodge, was killed in a separate shooting in Grand Rapids. The back-to-back violent deaths of their two sons left the Muskegon family devastated. Family members remember TJ as a devoted and hardworking father who had a passion for riding motorcycles and grilling.
As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of TJ Dodge. The Muskegon Police Department's investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may have information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the Muskegon Police Department at 724-6750 or to provide anonymous tips through Silent Observer at 722-7463. In the wake of this tragedy, the Dodge family has received support from the community through a GoFundMe campaign established to help with funeral and other related expenses. A celebration of life service for Timothy was held on Friday, December 15, 2023, and he was laid to rest at Mona View Cemetery.
