In the winter of 2022, the community of Muskegon Heights, Michigan, was shaken by the violent and unexpected death of one of its own. Julius Casey Muhammad, a 53-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot in his home on Baker Street on the evening of December 19th. A newly elected member of the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System school board, Muhammad was a respected figure known for his dedication to his community and his family.
